Very light padding but has worked well on the shorter rides I've done so far (sub 20 miles). It's not very clear in the picture, but there's a narrow band of elastic around each leg. If you're already a super fit triathlete, this may not cause any issues, but I find it does cut into any thigh fat you may have. It's passable for me, but just be careful!This is my second pair. Already had a pair that I loved. Very comfortable riding shorts and true to size. Padding lighter which I prefer.These are the best shorts. Perfect fit. I got a Med and I am 5'8" at 135.
